Von Willebrand disease occurs in up to 20% of girls and teens with heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has recommended screening since 2001; but how often does such screening actually happen? Investigators conducted a retrospective cohort study using a national claims database. HMB was defined based on standard codes; severe HMB also included iron deficiency anemia and necessity of hospitalization or blood transfusion.
