Since the publication of Sepsis-3 (NEJM JW Gen Med Mar 15 2016 and JAMA 2016; 315:775), many investigators have compared the predictive value of the quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) with that of the Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) criteria. The studies have been conducted nearly exclusively in high-resource setting hospitals, despite the great burden of sepsis in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
