Suicide has reemerged as a major public health problem with the CDC recently reporting that suicide rates increased from 1999 to 2016 in nearly every state (https://www.cdc.gov/vitalsigns/suicide/index.html). HIV-infected persons are at even higher risk for suicide than the general population. In France in 2010, suicide was the 6th most common cause of death in HIV+ persons and the second most common death among those with good HIV control (CD4 >500 and undetectable HIV levels).
