Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) can visualize both the left and right lobes of the liver to a very high level of detail. Although EUS is routinely used to evaluate and treat small pancreatic and extrapancreatic lesions, relatively few endosonographers have experience with EUS-guided biopsy of liver lesions. In a recent paper, researchers described the use of contrast-enhanced EUS to evaluate and conduct biopsy of liver metastases in 30 patients.
Before contrast enhancement, 22 of 30 total hepatic lesions were visible on standard B-mode EUS imaging, increasing to 29 after the administration of contrast.
