Highlights of new front-line treatments for patients with non–small-cell lung cancer
This year's annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO 2018), held June 1 to 5 in Chicago, highlighted the rapid evolution of front-line therapies for non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). All meeting abstracts can be viewed in the ASCO meeting library.
In 2016, the KEYNOTE-024 phase III trial changed the front-line standard of care to replace chemotherapy with pembrolizumab in patients with no actionable mutations who have high (≥50%) PD-L1 immunohistochemistry (IHC) expression (NEJM JW Oncol Hematol Jan 2017 and N Engl J Med 2016; 375:1823). This change was subsequently adopted for NSCLC patients with any histologic subtype.
