Mucosal healing is an important endpoint for treatment of Crohn disease. Anti–tumor necrosis factor (TNF) agents have been shown to result in endoscopic healing, and now other agents are being held to the same standard.
To assess the efficacy of the biologic agent ustekinumab in this setting, investigators analyzed endoscopic findings from a substudy of three randomized, placebo-controlled trials in patients with moderate to severe active Crohn disease. Patients underwent endoscopy procedures prior to enrollment, at week 8 of induction therapy, and again at week 44.
