Patients' preferences may play an important role in their approach to medications. Researchers examined data from the industry-sponsored, multisite Patient and Provider Assessment of Lipid Management (PALM) Registry to evaluate differences in statin use — and the causes behind these — between white and black patients in the U.S.
There were 806 black patients (14%) and 4883 white patients (86%) enrolled from March 2017 to May 2018 who were eligible for statins. Black patients were slightly, but still significantly, less likely to be treated than white patients (71% vs. 75%).
