HIV incidence rates vary significantly between white men who have sex with men (WMSM) and African-American men who have sex with men (AAMSM). There are also marked disparities in the uptake of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) between WMSM and AAMSM, currently estimated at approximately 5% and 2.5% respectively. Using agent-based modeling techniques, researchers simulated the impact of various PrEP uptake scenarios on HIV transmission in Atlanta between 2015 and 2024. The model accounted for individual behaviors and characteristics.
