Thrombolysis in Acute Stroke Patients Receiving Dual Antiplatelet Therapy

In a matching case-control study, patients taking DAPT before acute ischemic stroke had no worse outcomes after thrombolosis than those not on DAPT.

Studies have had contradictory findings on whether intravenous thrombolysis with TPA is safe in patients who are receiving dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). However, patients receiving DAPT are frequently older and have higher rates of cardiac comorbidity and prior stroke. Therefore, additional data with less confounding is needed.

These investigators reviewed data from a 7-year period from the European multicenter Safe Implementation of Treatments in Strokes (SITS) registry, which has >95,000 patients.
