Prior studies have shown that neoadjuvant bevacizumab improved pathologic complete response (PCR) in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)–negative breast cancer (GeparQuinto and NSABP-B40; NEJM JW Oncol Hematol Mar 2012 and N Engl J Med 2012; 366:310 and 299).
Now, to determine whether germline BRCA1/2-mutation status affects PCR in this setting, investigators assessed patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) from the GeparQuinto study who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy with epirubicin and cyclophosphamide (EC) followed by docetaxel, with or without bevacizumab from the outset of preoperative chemotherapy until surgery.
