The efficacy of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV infection is well-established, yet uptake of and adherence to PrEP remains low, particularly among young men who have sex with men (YMSM). Now, investigators have conducted a single-clinic, randomized controlled trial to evaluate the impact of a text-messaging, PrEP-support intervention (PrEPmate) on 121 high-risk participants (mean age, 24.2 years; 95% men; 5% transgender/genderqueer; 36% Latino; and 28% African-American).
