Symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is typically managed with a vaginal pessary or pelvic reconstructive surgery; however, many women are not good surgical candidates. Investigators at one institution in China conducted a prospective observational study involving 343 women with POP to identify risk factors for unsuccessful pessary fitting. Successful fitting was defined by ongoing use at 2 weeks, at which time patients returned to report on their comfort and whether they wanted to keep the pessary; those who reported discomfort were offered a second fitting with similar follow-up.
