Dear Readers,
It is an honor to have the opportunity to follow Dr. Rich Zane as Editor-in-Chief of NEJM Journal Watch Emergency Medicine. It has been 15 years since I first started summarizing the literature as part of the Journal Watch team. During most of those years, my Editor-in-Chief was Dr. Ron Walls, who founded the publication.
I have long considered Journal Watch to be one of my most important responsibilities as an emergency physician. Interpreting the medical literature requires a combination of history, science, and imagination. I believe that it also requires vigorous debate. Before publishing a piece, our team engages in spirited discussion about what the article means and how it should (or shouldn't) influence clinical practice…
