Pelvic organ prolapse (POP), often associated with stress urinary incontinence, results in 300,000 surgeries annually in the U.S. To study outcomes of POP surgery with and without hysterectomy, investigators used California data from 2005 through 2011 to assess reoperation rates and perioperative surgical complications. Among some 94,000 women undergoing index POP surgery, 45% had a concomitant hysterectomy, and 55% did not. Median follow-up was 4.1 years.
