Researchers estimate that a quarter of individuals attempting suicide did not disclose suicidal ideation on the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) during clinician visits preceding the suicide attempt. To better understand contributions to the mismatch between attempt and lack of ideation disclosure, researchers interviewed 26 individuals in a health maintenance organization who attempted suicide 60 days after denying suicidal ideation at a clinical visit.
