Multiple risk scores exist to predict outcomes in upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, and one (the Glasgow-Blatchford score) has been shown to predict low-risk patients who may be managed on an outpatient basis. However, there are relatively few risk scores for lower GI bleeding (LGIB), and most have focused on identifying high-risk patients who may need an intervention such as blood product transfusion or endoscopic/radiologic/surgical therapy.
