Abnormalities of fetal growth (small or large for gestational age [SGA, LGA]) and amniotic fluid are not uncommon, yet our primary screening modality— serially assessing fundal height— may seem inexact compared with ultrasound imaging. In a randomized trial, investigators evaluated serial ultrasound examinations every 4 weeks in the third trimester versus routine care (fundal height measurement and ultrasound imaging only when clinically indicated) in 206 low-risk women.
