Daptomycin has been associated with clinical myopathy in 2% to 14% of patients. Similarly, statins are associated with myopathy in 5% to 10% of patients. Although prior reports suggested no increased risk for myopathy when these drugs are combined, those studies were not designed specifically to detect this risk.
To better answer this question, researchers performed a retrospective, matched case-control risk factor analysis at a single medical center from 2004 to 2015. The records were searched for the terms “daptomycin” and “myopathy” and then manually reviewed.
