Safe and effective acute treatment for migraine remains an unmet need for many patients. Because of vasoconstrictive properties, triptans (5HT1B/1D receptor agonists) are contraindicated for patients with cardiovascular history or risk factors. Lasmiditan, an investigational, highly selective 5HT1F receptor agonist, did not show vasoconstriction in previous preclinical and clinical studies. In this phase 3 randomized, prospective, placebo-controlled, double-blind, manufacturer-funded study, investigators tested the safety and efficacy of 100 mg and 200 mg of lasmiditan. Patients with cardiovascular risk factors were intentionally enrolled.
