Among the various strategies for managing symptomatic uterine leiomyomas, only hysterectomy provides definitive relief (and other approaches have significant failure rates). In a prospective manufacturer-supported trial, the safety and efficacy of ultrasound-guided transcervical ablation was evaluated in 147 patients with symptomatic leiomyomas (median age, 43). The outpatient procedure was performed by 24 clinicians who received training and support on use of this investigational system, which integrates intrauterine ultrasound imaging with a radiofrequency treatment device.
