Patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) who undergo curative surgical resection are at increased risk for metachronous colorectal cancer. Current guidelines recommend perioperative clearing colonoscopy, followed by surveillance colonoscopy 1 year after surgery, then 3 years later, and subsequently at 5-year intervals. In a systematic review and meta-analysis of 27 studies (comprising nearly 16,000 patients), researchers assessed the incidence of CRC over 16 years after surgery with curative intent.
