Cold snare polypectomy is the preferred resection method for small and diminutive polyps, while hot snare polypectomy and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) are recommended for polyps ≥10 mm. Cold snare polypectomy has the advantage of decreased electrocautery-related complications, such as delayed bleeding and perforation, but whether it is appropriate for the resection of large polyps is unclear.
In the current systematic review, investigators identified eight studies reporting on cold snare resection or cold EMR of 522 total nonpedunculated polyps ≥10 mm. The results of a pooled analysis were as follows:
