Pancreatic cysts remain one of the most common findings on cross-sectional imaging, most of which are incidental findings. Many patients with these findings will be referred for endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) to check for lesions that might warrant surgery. Foremost among these high-risk lesions are intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs), a small fraction of which are malignant. However, methods to evaluate and analyze these lesions remain nonstandardized.
To identify an ideal testing regimen for patients with suspected malignant IPMNs, investigators conducted a meta-analysis of 193 studies that analyzed seven preoperative and three postoperative biomarkers of IPMNs in more than 12,000 patients.
