Inadequate menstrual hygiene compromises quality of life and is associated with health concerns. Investigators invited low-income women aged ≥18 who were receiving services at nonprofit community agencies in St. Louis to participate in interviewer-administered surveys and focus groups to identify women's needs and preferences as well as barriers related to menstrual hygiene. All women agreed to participate.
In all, 64% of respondents indicated that they faced challenges accessing menstrual hygiene supplies during the previous year (21% said they experienced this challenge monthly).
