Chronic pancreatitis presents many endoscopic challenges. Patients can develop pancreatic duct stones and strictures; extrahepatic biliary strictures from pancreatic inflammation; fluid collections, including pseudocysts; and walled-off pancreatic necrosis. Also, patients often have chronic pain management issues, which can be treated with pancreatic duct decompression, celiac block, and other endoscopic procedures. Now, the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy has updated its 2012 guidelines (Endoscopy 2012; 44:784) regarding the endoscopic management of chronic pancreatitis.
