Although triglycerides, like LDL, are associated with elevated cardiovascular risks, randomized trials of triglyceride lowering have yielded inconsistent evidence of benefit. Because both LDL and triglycerides are lipoproteins containing apolipoprotein B (apoB), these investigators used mendelian randomization analyses to compare the associations of triglyceride-lowering genetic variants and LDL-lowering genetic variants with cardiovascular risk as a function of unit change in apoB.
