Is Screening for Urinary Tract Infection Necessary in Patients with Bronchiolitis?

In a meta-analysis, the prevalence of UTI was only 0.8% when both a positive culture and urinalysis markers of UTI were present.

Some studies have suggested an increased prevalence of urinary tract infection (UTI) in children with bronchiolitis. To ascertain if evidence supports screening for UTI in this common condition, researchers conducted a meta-analysis of studies that examined the prevalence of UTI in young children with bronchiolitis when a positive urine culture was present alone or with positive urinalysis markers (>5 white blood cells/high power field, positive nitrite, or positive leukocyte esterase).
