Several studies have associated harsh physical punishment (e.g., spanking, slapping, grabbing, shaking, or putting soap in a child's mouth) with aggression in childhood and with antisocial behaviors in adulthood, including physical attacks and stealing. To learn more about these associations in the U.S. general population, investigators evaluated data from in-person interviews of 36,309 adults (48% men, mean age, 47) from wave 3 of the National Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions.
