Background and Objective

A multidisciplinary committee has developed the U.K.'s first evidence-based recommendations on diagnosis and management of acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB) based on a systematic literature review.

What's Changed

This guideline adds to the existing 2016 American College of Gastroenterology guideline (NEJM JW Gastroenterol Aug 2016 and Am J Gastroenterol 2016; 111:459) by introducing use of the shock index for initial triage, emphasizing early use of computed tomography angiogram (CTA) in unstable patients, using risk stratification scores to identify low-risk patients who may be managed as outpatients, and incorporating the latest evidence on …
