Although some people decrease their drinking during their college years, others persist in risky drinking well into their twenties. In studies of adolescents and college freshmen, parents' greater permissiveness toward alcohol use and less monitoring were related to their children's greater alcohol drinking and negative consequences. But for how long does this influence extend?
