Multiple health problems have been reported in Ebola virus disease (EVD) survivors. To assess prevalence and change of these problems over time, investigators enrolled 966 antibody-positive EVD survivors and 2350 controls (antibody-negative close contacts of survivors) and collected data on symptoms, physical examinations, laboratory results, and, in a subset, detailed ophthalmologic examinations. Follow-up evaluations occurred every 6 months.
During the first follow-up year, reports of urinary frequency, headache, fatigue, muscle pain, memory loss, and joint pain were significantly more common in survivors than in controls.
