Fetal exposure to hyperglycemia affects birth weight. Overweight and obesity are also associated with offspring being large for gestational age (LGA) or born prematurely. To examine the interactions between prepregnancy body-mass index (BMI) and different maternal diabetes diagnoses in contributing to prematurity and LGA risks, researchers examined data from 650,000 live births in Finland between 2004 and 2014.
