Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA; also known as partial knee replacement) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are treatment options for patients whose osteoarthritis involves only one of the three knee compartments; however, most patients with this condition undergo TKA. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, investigators compared outcomes for TKA versus UKA that involved the medial compartment (most UKAs are performed for medial-compartment arthritis). The meta-analysis included 5 randomized controlled trials, 17 national joint registry and database studies, and 36 cohort studies.
