To investigate maternal and neonatal outcomes associated with birth from 39 through 41 completed weeks' gestation, investigators studied 3.3 million low-risk singleton pregnancies occurring in the U.S. from 2011 to 2015. Gestational age at birth was analyzed at 39 weeks (39 weeks 0 days through 39 weeks 6 days; 44% of births), 40 weeks (40 weeks 0 days through 40 weeks 6 days; 41%) and 41 weeks (41 weeks 0 days through 41 weeks 6 days; 15%). Comparisons were adjusted for maternal age, race, education, prepregnancy body-mass index, prenatal care, and smoking.
