Locally advanced prostate cancer typically requires multimodality therapy to improve patient outcomes. For patients managed with radiotherapy (RT), the addition of androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) for 2 to 3 years is supported by level-1 evidence of improved outcomes.
To determine the effect of adding docetaxel chemotherapy to external-beam RT plus ADT in this setting, investigators conducted a multicenter, randomized, phase III study involving 563 patients with good performance status, no evidence of nodal or distant metastasis, and Gleason scores of 9 to 10, 7 to 8 with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) ≥20 ng/mL, or 8 with PSA <20 ng/mL and T stage ≥T2.
