The ASGE has updated its 2011 guideline on the evaluation and management of patients with choledocholithiasis. That previous ASGE guideline, much like the recent guideline from the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) on this topic (NEJM JW Gastroenterol April 5 2019; [e-pub] and Endoscopy 2019 Apr 3; [e-pub]), was a narrative review of the literature with recommendations by authors. The current version is based on nine preformulated clinical questions addressed via systematic literature review, four of which were amenable to a PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcomes of Interest) approach.
