The standard of care for patients with operable gastric cancer has been pre- and postoperative chemotherapy with three cycles of epirubicin, cisplatin, and 5-FU (ECF).
Given the activity of docetaxel in metastatic gastric cancer (NEJM JW Oncol Hematol Mar 2014 and Lancet Oncol 2014; 15:78), investigators from Germany have conducted a multicenter, open-label, randomized phase II/III trial (FLOT4) to compare four pre- and four postoperative cycles of conventional ECF versus FLOT (continuous infusion 5-FU, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel) in 716 patients with resectable gastric or gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) adenocarcinoma.
