Little research has focused on treatment for the 30% to 40% of adolescents who develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after experiencing physical or sexual abuse. Investigators of this multicenter, randomized German trial examined the effects of developmentally adapted cognitive processing therapy (D-CPT) in 88 adolescents (mean age, 18) with child abuse–related PTSD. Half the group were randomized to D-CPT (average, 25 sessions administered over 16–20 weeks) and half to a control condition of waiting list with advice to seek specialized treatment. Blinded outcome assessments in both groups occurred at baseline, at the middle and end of the treatment period, and at 3-month follow-up.
