The lifetime prevalence of common mental disorders (CMDs), including depressive and anxiety disorders, is reported to be around 30% globally and is thought to be higher among individuals living alone. To study CMDs and potential mediators among individuals living alone, investigators examined U.K. national survey data from 1993, 2000, and 2007 on 20,503 individuals aged 16 to 64 years (male, 50%; white, >90%; employed, >70%).
Survey data covered CMDs, demographics, and potential mediators (obesity, smoking, alcohol dependence, drug use, loneliness, and social support).
