Ticagrelor is a reversible inhibitor of platelet aggregation via antagonism of adenosine diphosphate receptor type P2Y12. It is used to prevent thrombotic events in patients with acute coronary syndromes. A post hoc analysis of a patient cohort in a ticagrelor clinical trial showed that ticagrelor-treated patients had lower infection-related deaths than those treated with clopidogrel.
