This proof-of-concept study was aimed at determining how smartphone-derived digital data collected outside the clinic compared to routine clinic assessment of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In this single-center pilot study of 23 patients, the authors focused on collecting data particularly relevant to ALS trials, such as the revised ALS Functional Rating Scale (ALSFRS-R). Routine clinic-based data were collected every 3 months alongside digital data, including patient surveys (ALSFRS-R) collected weekly and voice recordings collected twice weekly to assess speech quality.
