Psychotic experiences (PEs) have been shown to predict later development of psychotic illness and other psychiatric disorders. However, no meta-analysis has specifically focused on studies of children and adolescents, even though this population has a higher prevalence of PEs (8%–17%) than adults. For a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies using DSM or International Classification of Diseases criteria in young participants, researchers identified 6 cross-sectional and 8 longitudinal studies (N=29,517); 13 were available for meta-analysis. Studies of help-seeking, high-risk participants were excluded.
