Although cholecystectomy is commonly performed and widely recognized as safe and effective, a small portion of patients develop a postcholecystectomy biliary stricture (PCBS) that warrants treatment. PCBS is typically treated by placing stents via endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). In a recent study, investigators assessed long-term outcomes of PCBS treatment with placement of multiple side-by-side plastic biliary stents.
The retrospective study comprised 154 patients who received treatment during a 21-year period. Minimum patient follow-up was 7 years (mean, 11 years).
