Two new studies use Medicare prescribing and payments data to explore the influence of industry payments on physician prescribing behavior: one concerns the prescribing of biologics for Crohn disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC); the other concerns the preference for prescribing brand name versus generic gabapentinoid drugs.
The first study identified about 3700 gastroenterologists who wrote more than 11 prescriptions a year for adalimumab (Humira) for CD or UC, and about 600 gastroenterologists with the same prescribing threshold for certolizumab (Cimzia) for CD.
