Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a progressive liver disease that can lead to cirrhosis and liver failure. Patients with PSC are at increased risk for hepatobiliary malignancies, especially cholangiocarcinoma, for which the annual risk is 0.5% to 1.0%. This updated guideline — based on published data from observational studies and systematic reviews — includes surveillance recommendations for cholangiocarcinoma, gallbladder adenocarcinoma, and hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with PSC.
