Despite advances in surgical technique and immunosuppression, biliary strictures, most commonly at the duct-to-duct anastomosis, remain common following orthotopic liver transplantation. Different institutions approach these strictures via various approaches, including endoscopic, percutaneous, and, rarely, surgical revision.
To evaluate the use of multiple, side-by-side plastic stents to treat biliary strictures, investigators conducted a prospective study of 87 patients who received a diagnosis of anastomotic stenosis following liver transplantation during a 6-year period.
