In the wake of several randomized trials evaluating short-term anticoagulation strategies for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who undergo percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI; e.g., NEJM JW Cardiology Jan 2017 and N Engl J Med 2016; 375:2423), another has been published (NCT02866175). Edoxaban's manufacturer funded the trial.
The researchers randomized 1506 adults with AF undergoing PCI to one of two regimens:
Edoxaban plus a P2Y12 inhibitor for 12 months
Warfarin plus a P2Y12 inhibitor for 12 months, in addition to aspirin for 1 to 12 months
