According to U.S. guidelines, nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) with immediate breast reconstruction is an acceptable procedure for carefully selected patients. However, controversy remains regarding its safety for patients with breast cancer, as there are limited studies with long-term follow-up.
Now, investigators in the Republic of Korea have conducted a 7-year, single-institution, retrospective cohort study of 944 patients who underwent NSM with immediate breast reconstruction to identify the incidence, outcomes, and risk factors associated with cancer recurrence at the nipple-areola complex (NAC).
