Direct-acting antiviral therapy for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is effective in achieving sustained viral responses. However, the risk for reinfection associated with such treatment among people who inject drugs is unclear.
To address this issue, investigators conducted an extension of the PREVAIL study (NCT01857245), a randomized controlled trial of three models of HCV care among 150 injection drug users receiving opioid agonist therapy. Of the 141 participants who achieved a sustained virologic response by the end of the PREVAIL study, 114 were recruited for the extension study.
