A number of prior studies have assessed the incidence and reporting of occupational sharps injuries by healthcare workers, noting both a high incidence of events in physicians performing invasive procedures as well as a surprisingly high incidence of underreporting.
Given a relative lack of information on these issues regarding orthopedic trainees, researchers conducted a national anonymous, voluntary cross-sectional survey in 2015 involving 300 residents and fellows in U.S. orthopedic surgery training programs.
